Swagelok is an Essential Business
On March 22, the State of Ohio issued a Public Health Order for Ohioans to stay at home as part of combating the COVID-19 virus. The order goes in effect at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 23. This order includes a directive to close non-essential businesses. Non-essential businesses are generally less vital in nature. Swagelok is an essential business as defined by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) reporting to the Secretary of Homeland Security. We serve the industries that the Department of Homeland Security has outlined as necessary to maintain the critical infrastructure of our nation.
Why?
The Department of Homeland Security has issued guidance on “Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers During COVID-19 Response.” Critical companies include manufacturers of “materials and products needed for medical supply chains, transportation, energy, communications, food and agriculture, chemical manufacturing, nuclear facilities, the operation of dams, water and wastewater treatment, emergency services, and the defense industrial base.”
The tube fittings, valves, regulators and other products we manufacture at Swagelok support customers that serve that critical infrastructure, including:
- Medical Supply Chains: Production of COVID-19 tests, fixtures in research labs working on potential vaccines, production of respirators and other supplies
- Energy and Chemicals: Maintenance of critical chemical and refining facilities and continued production of oil and gas, electricity and hydroelectric power
- Communications: Production of the semiconductor wafers that power portable electronics and information technology systems
- Food and Agriculture: Maintenance of food and beverage manufacturing facilities
- National Defense: Several customers have already contacted us regarding our support of their critical defense projects
What Will We Do?
Swagelok will take all steps needed to remain open so that we can support the critical work our customers are doing. In fact, the federal government has stated that “if you work in a critical infrastructure industry, you have a special responsibility to maintain your normal work schedule.”
We will continue to prioritize the health of our associates at work by enforcing additional social distancing measures and continuing our increased cleaning, staggered shift starts and associate self-checks.
